How to ask a venue for a homeschool rate
Plenty of venues sell school-group pricing but never mention homeschoolers. Asking politely often works, especially if you can bring a group.
Before you ask
- Group size. Many rates start at 10 students (Zoo Atlanta, Tellus, Fernbank and LEGO Discovery Center all use 10).
- Ages or grades. Venues match programs to grades.
- Two or three possible weekdays. Tuesday through Thursday mornings are usually easiest.
- Proof of homeschooling if they ask. Georgia Aquarium and Fernbank both mention a letter of intent.
A simple email or phone script
"Hi! We're a group of about [number] homeschool students, ages [range], and we'd love to visit on a weekday in [month]. Do you offer a homeschool, school-group or co-op rate? If so, what's the minimum group size, how far ahead should we book, and do you need any documentation? Thank you!"
Where to look first
Check the venue's Education, Schools & Groups or Field Trips pages. Homeschool rates often sit there, not on the main ticket page. For example, Fernbank's homeschool page sits under Education & Field Trips, and Bulloch Hall says "special arrangements can be made for Home School Groups" by phone.
If they say no
Ask about member-only programs, weekday off-peak pricing, or free days. Then tell us what you found so other families know.
